Mitchell “Evan” Stroud
January 4,1956 ~ March 18, 2024

Mitchell "Evan" Stroud (referred to by most as just Evan) was born in New York, New York on Wednesday January 4, 1956 to (the late) Delores Stroud-Crawford and (the late) Joe Banks.

Mitchell lived in upper Manhattan until he moved to the Highbridge section of the Bronx in 1966, where he spent the majority of his childhood and adult life until late 2019.  During his time in the Bronx, Mitchell became a well-known and respected part of his community (he seemingly knew everyone). 


William (Willie) Johnson
March 3,1937 ~ April 8, 2024

Mr. William (Willie) Johnson, 87, of the Bronx, NY passed away suddenly on Monday, April 8, 2024. Willie Johnson was born on March 3, 1937 in Savannah, Georgia and baptized on May 11, 1967 at The Church of Annunciation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Johnson and Carrie Bell Johnson, sisters Alice Marie Farley and Laura Bell Johnson, his brother Eddie Johnson and his nephew Carlton Johnson.

Mr. Johnson moved to New York City from Savannah, GA in 1957 where he met and married his beloved wife, Katherine Thompson of Fayetteville, NC.


Mrs. Essie Mae Coleman-Jacobs
June 11,1947 ~ March 31, 2024

Essie Coleman was born on June 11, 1947 in Selma, Alabama to the late parents of Mrs. Louise and Fred Simmons Sr. Essie accepted Christ at an early age as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Good Hope Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, Alabama.  Shortly after the birth of her only child, McArthur Coleman (1964), Essie departed Selma in order to pursue various jobs throughout New York City working as a house sitter and nanny.


Joanne “Dearest” McMillian
August 28,1940 ~ March 31, 2024

Joanne McMillan was born in Detroit, Michigan to the loving parents of Joe Willie Brown and Pearl McMillan, on August 28, 1940. She was the first of three daughters. Her two sisters Vera and Patricia preceded her in death. 

Joanne attended elementary school and high school in Detroit, Michigan before relocating to New York City in 1956. In 1958, while living in New York Joanne met the love of her life Luis Mangual Sr. Together she and Luis had two sons Luis Mangual Jr. and L’Sean Mangual, whom she adored. 


Marion Ronald Coleman
January 15,1930 ~ March 18, 2024

Marion Ronald Coleman was born on January 15th, 1930, in Camden, South Carolina, to Charlie Coleman and Renee Portee Coleman. He loved to tell the story of his two birthdays. And all who knew him well knew he preferred to be called Coleman and was nicknamed “Nap” while growing up as a young child.

Coleman grew up on a farm and was educated in the Camden Public School System. With five dollars in his pocket, he left South Carolina to attend college on a baseball scholarship at the illustrious North Carolina A&T University.


Stephanie G. McAllister
October 13,1958 ~ March 8, 2024

Stephanie Gail Benton McAllister, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. Stephanie was born on October 13th, 1958, to her parents James Benton Sr. and Johnnie Mae Benton. She was raised in Manhattanville Projects in Harlem, NY!

Stephanie, affectionately known as “Steph,” was the loving sibling of James Benton Jr., Gwendolyn E. Benton, and Anthony Benton. She received her education from PS 129, JHS 43, Brandeis HS, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College.


Otilio Colón
September 11,1965 ~ February 26, 2024

We mourn the loss of Otilio Colón, who passed away on February 26, 2024. Known affectionately as “Tee” or more formally as Otilio, he was a charismatic and nurturing soul whose radiant personality lit up every room he entered. He was a loving father, son, brother, and uncle leaving behind his beloved daughter, Olivia Colón, mother, Maria Colón, siblings Nancy Colón, Steve Colón and Andrew Colón, a host of nieces and nephews, and former spouse, Audra Colón. He was predeceased by his father Esteban Colón.


Brian Dwayne Watson
March 16,1977 ~ February 11, 2024

Brian Dwayne Watson was born on March 16, 1977, at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital to his loving parents Denise Johnson and George D. Watson. Brian was the cherished firstborn of three siblings, including Tabitha and Theo.

Raised in Harlem, Brian attended P.S. 123 and went on to attend middle school at I.S. 43, where he expressed interest in playing the game of chess. Brian was encouraged to explore his interest in the game by his science teacher Richard Gudonsky, who was also a chess player.


John Hubert Richardson
October 7,1923 ~ February 18, 2024

John Hubert Richardson, known for his calm demeanor and dedication to education, passed away on February 18, 2024, at the age of 100.

Born on October 7, 1923, in Richmond Hospital on Staten Island, New York, John was the eldest child of Joseph and Drucilla Richardson, who emigrated to the United States from the island of Anguilla, British West Indies. 


Martha L. Malloy

Martha Lee Wescott closed her eyes and went to peaceful rest on February 11, 2024.

Martha was the youngest of six children (one of the other five was her twin sister Mary) born to Thomas William Wescott and Lillian Holt Wescott on December 27, 1925 in Eastville, Virginia. Martha graduated from North Hampton County High School in 1943. From an early age, Martha attended Union Baptist Church in Eastville, Virginia with her family. Martha grew up in a close knit family and community. She revered and loved her parents dearly for her entire life. Her sisters were her best friends.


Clarence McCollough, Sr.
September 13,1935 ~ February 12, 2024

Clarence McCollough, Sr., peacefully transitioned the morning of February 12, 2023, at home in the Bronx, NY, with his devoted wife by his side.

Clarence was born September 13, 1935, in Greensboro, Alabama, to the late Ammie (Practhes) and the late Jonas McCollough. He was the youngest of eight children. Clarence was educated in the Greensboro, Alabama public school system. He attended Tuskegee Institute, prior to migrating to New York City, where he later enlisted in the United States Army.


William Davis
June 13,1953 ~ February 2, 2024

William Davis was a man of conviction who concluded his earthly journey on February 3, 2024 - but not without leaving an indelible imprint.

The first member of his family to graduate from high school, William was born to Loretta Dupree and William Davis on June 13, 1958 in Lincoln Hospital. Growing up at 581 Teasdale Place and other parts of the South Bronx, William blossomed into a natural athlete who enjoyed playing basketball, punting a soccer ball, fielding a baseball, running track and holding himself afloat on the gymnastic rings.

Ricardo Wilson was born in Harlem Hospital in New York,NY to his parents Angie Pearl Wilson & Arthur Ray Wilson Sr. on June 6th 1966. He went to Park West High School and obtained his diploma in 1985. He then went on to earn a certificate for Certified Dental Assistant at Columbia University. He worked as a maintenance worker at Buick. He worked as a dental assistant at Park West High School. He was involved in the Boys Choir Harlem of NYC, where he sang. He loved to play the piano, loved to sing, listen to music and spend time with family.


Rohan O’Neil Lindsay
April 13,1972 ~ January 11, 2024

Rohan O’Neil Lindsay, aka Devon, was born on April 13, 1972, to Mercilyn Roberts in Clarendon, Jamaica. As a child, he attended Simon Primary School and often accompanied his grandmother to Simon Baptist Church. Rohan loved cooking, and over the years, he would always seek out jobs that would allow him to help prepare food for others. On January 11, 2024, the Lord called Rohan home. He will be deeply missed by all those who loved and cherished him.


Walter McClary
March 12,1934 ~ January 30, 2024

Walter McClary, 89, departed this earthly life on January 30,2024 at the home of his caregiver and granddaughter, Tamika Harris, in New York, New York.

Born on March 12, 1934, to the late Mary Lee Washington and the late Henry Wilson Sr., Walter was raised in a Christian home in Mayesville, South Carolina. In his youth he accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and became a member of Galilee Baptist Church along with his family. Walter was educated in the public schools of Sumter County at the Mayesville Institute.


Rhoda Wynn Wells
July 10,1927 ~ January 17, 2024

Rhoda Wynn Wells was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 10, 1927. She grew up in the same neighborhood and attended elementary school with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She attended Morris Brown College, part of the Atlanta University Center, a Historical Black College and University, which included Spelman, Morehouse and Clark College, and was part of the college marching band as a majorette. She graduated in the same era that many great black Americans whose contribution to history and the world is indelibly etched into our conscience to this day.


Ruby May Campbell
May 1,1925 ~ January 17, 2024

Ruby May Campbell passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2024. She was 98 years old. Born May 1, 1925 in Jamaica, West Indies, she was the daughter of Albert and Louise Francis.

Ruby was affectionately known by many different names such as Moms, Ms. Prop or Sgt. Major.

Ruby grew up with her brothers Arthur and Lenny in Kingston, Jamaica and was raised by her grandmother due to her parents’ untimely passing while she was a young girl.


Matthew Brown, Sr.

Beloved Husband, Father, and Devoted Mason, Matthew Brown Sr. was called from labor and laid down his working tools on Sunday, December 31, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Matthew was born on November 28, 1934, in Camden, South Carolina, to the late Laura Taylor-Brown and Jimmie Brown. He was preceded in death by 6 of his siblings. He is survived by his brother, Issac Brown (Mary Ann), Georgia, sisters: Laura Kornegay, Martha Halley of South Carolina and Virginia Mitchell of Georgia.


Tyrone Cloud
July 16,1972 ~ December 29, 2023

Tyrone Cloud was born July 16, 1972 at Saint John’s Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. He was the fifth of ten children. He grew up on 142nd Street and Edgecombe Ave. Tyrone attended a trade school and fell in love with construction. He was a carpenter for over 20 years.

Tyrone A.K.A. Ty, Ty Bean, Fox - even with all his nicknames he touched so many people with his big heart, sense of humor, and generous bank roll (as he thought). He was a man that could lift your spirits with knowledge and bless you with his presence. Tyrone was a family man; he loved everyone in their own special way.


Francine Conde
December 16,1965 ~ January 6, 2024

Francine Conde, affectionately known as known as “Fran” was born December 16, 1965, to Hymie and Norma E. Conde in Harlem, New York.  She was the third of their four children.

Fran spent her childhood in the Ralph J. Rangel (Colonial) Houses where she formed countless friendships, most of them spanning a lifetime. Fran spent many days playing in the Rangel Houses where she was a member of the JB dancers and played skellies, hop scotch, double dutch and many other games.


Barbara Appel
August 30,1950 ~ January 4, 2024

Barbara DeVore Spencer Appel was born on August 30, 1950 in Fort Valley, GA to her mother Dorothy Amey (nee Roziere). Until the age of 12 she was raised in Fort Valley, GA by her great grandmother Mary Jordan, and grand aunts, Lilly Johnson, and Lettie Craig. At the age of 12 her mother married James D. Spencer and Barbara along with her older brother Richard moved to New York, NY.

Barbara was enrolled at the newly built Louis D. Brandeis High School on New York’s Upper Westside and graduated 1968.

Friday, December 22, 2023, the Lord’s guardian angels came down from heaven and visited Lottie Pat Morrison (affectionately addressed as L. Pat) and invited her to join him for all eternity. Her soul has ascended with the Holy Spirit, where she would not feel any pain or tears; only receiving, love and happiness in the embrace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As Mom approached the calm waters and the healing light, she was prepared and only waiting to hear her master say, “My Servant, Well Done”, and with that, Mom would meet her mother and father, for the first time, and join them in eternal life.


Dorothy Aiken

Dorothy Harris Aiken entered eternal life on Saturday, December 30, 2023.  Her spirit is carried on by family and friends from every walk of life.  

Dorothy was born in Coweta County, Georgia to the late Ophelia (Ferrell) and late Roosevelt Harris.  She lived with her family in the Atlanta suburb of College Park before moving to New York City as a young child during the Great Migration.  While growing up in Manhattan, she attended P.S. 46, Stitt Junior High School and graduated from Washington Irving High School. 


Johnnie Richard Ellis
December 20,1938 ~ December 27, 2023

Johnnie Richard Ellis was born to the late Annie and James Oscar Ellis on December 20, 1938 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Johnnie was the second of eleven children; four of whom preceded him in death. He transitioned to a better place on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Johnnie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Rocky Mount in 1956. After graduating, he took up employment at the local supermarket along with other jobs within Rocky Mount. His interests were drawing and he had an enthusiasm for putting together jigsaw puzzles that would later be framed.


Catherine Patricia Stone
February 16, 1952 ~ December 6, 2023

On February 16th, 1952 Catherine Patricia Stone was born in New York City, NY to the late Alfred B. and Gloria Stone. She was the eldest of five children. Her siblings who preceded her in death: Alfreda (Bunnie) Stone, Gloria (Nita) Stone, Zeb B. Stone, and a son Alfred Burgess.

During her younger years she grew up in Harlem, NY and the Bronx. She attended and graduated Taft High School in the Bronx. She later furthered her education at the College of New Rochelle at the Bronx campus where she received her BA in social work.


Ethel Mae Roberts

1927 Born to Edward and Leotta Samuels in Harlem, New York
1933 Started the Bethel Gospel Assembly Sunday School. Invited to Bethel by Rube Hackett. I am still a member 74 years later. Best friend and playmate is Laura Matthews-Levine.

1943    I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior. Joined the Young People’s Chorus in my youth. I assisted by playing the piano (what a joy).
1945    Received water baptism. Started attending Manhattan Bible Inst. Played an active part in the church.


Antonio Ignacio Barzey Caines
January 20, 1959 ~ December 9, 2023

Antonio (Tony) Ignacio Barzey Caines was born on January 20, 1959 in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic to Marcelina Mela Caines Barzey and Peter Barzey. His family lived in the tight-knit sugar mill community of Santa Fe, where his father served as Chief Chemist for over 40 years. He grew up in a loving home with his five siblings: Pedro (deceased), Sarah, Edmund, Peter Alexander and William. Tony and his brothers loved to play music together, where he contributed by singing, playing the bongos and güiro.


George Gilbert Adams a.k.a. “Gilly” & “Sentry”

Gilbert George Adams was born at 7 Young Street, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica W.I., to the proud parents of Mildred Maud Smith and Douglas George Adams on June 07, 1950. He is the first and only child of Mildred and Douglas, but the eldest of eight children.

Gilbert attended Jackson ABC School then at the age of seven, he went on to St. Catherine Primary School, after passing his Common Entrance, he attended Calabar High School.


Irene Delores Alvarez McKenzie
May 9, 1953 ~ November 23, 2023

Irene Delores was born on May 9, 1933, the third daughter of Guyanese-born Charles Herman and Irene Alvarez (nee Seely). The family lived in Harlem and the Bronx, NY. Irene’s older sister Marjorie rechristened her “Sister,” and the name stuck.

Sister was quick-witted; her loyalty, especially to family, knew no limits. She was a visionary and no-nonsense type born ahead of her time, a school secretary who played the stock market and used IRAs as stocking stuffers for her children. She loved justice, her grandmother Dixie, word play, sweets, the Anglican form of worship, and beauty.


Juanita Hernandez

Juanita Hernandez, born on October 9th, 1953 was the daughter of the late Bernardo and Louise Hernandez departed us on November 13, 2023.  Juanita was the 5th of 8 children and is survived by her 2 sisters; Maria Hernandez-Campbell (Muammar), Luisa H. Jacobs (Ken), and brother; Miguelito Hernandez (Valencia), her life partner Eisen “Ike” Jones, and her beloved nieces and nephews; Elizabeth, Edward, Lisa, Bernardo, Louise F., Ernest, Earl, Paul, Jerilyn, Miguel, Lei-Sade, Amoni, Kareem, Naasir, Louise J., Matthew, and a host of other relatives and friends.


Edmonia Tucker Hollingsworth
September 22, 1920 ~ November 10, 2023

Edmonia Tucker Hollingsworth was passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 10, 2023. Edmonia was born in Lawrenceville, Virginia on September 22, 1920. The eighth child of Anne and Moses Tucker who have all preceded her in death, Edmonia was educated in Brunswick County Virginia. She moved to Washington, DC to work at a young age. After returning to Lawrenceville for a while she relocated to New York where she lived until her death.


Irma Jean Henderson
October 31, 1936 ~ November 3, 2023

Irma Jean Henderson was born in Columbus, Mississippi to James Gray and Elsie Gray on October 31st, 1936. She was the last of eight children.

Irma attended Union Academy High School in 1957. Then she came to New York where she lived at the YMCA. Irma then attended The College of New Rochelle where she pursued studies to be a registered nurse and OBS technician. She worked at Harlem Hospital until her retirement in 1991 as an OBS technician delivering babies, a job that she truly enjoyed.


Sheila Veronica Nicholson Andrade
April 6, 1940 ~ October 25, 2023

Sheila Veronica Nicholson Andrade, was born to Lionel Nicholson and Nina Harrison on April 6, 1940, in Spanish Town, Jamaica, West Indies.  She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother, a businesswoman and entrepreneur, and a caregiver for not only to her family and extended family but to those in need. Sheila also loved art, traveling and fashion. And make no mistake about it, she worked hard, sought the best of the best, was fiercely independent and did not hold her tongue.


Moses Jacob Jones, Jr.
February 26, 1932 ~ October 29, 2023

Moses Jacob Jones, Jr., was born February 26, 1932 in New Bern, North Carolina to the proud parents of Moses Jacob Jones, Sr. and Gladys White Jones-Foy. He was the second child of three children.

Moses attended elementary, middle and high school in North Carolina. After high school graduation, he entered the US Army on Monday, August 28, 1950 and served in the Korean War as a Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on the 27th of August 1953 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.


Delores Browne Abelson

Delores Browne was a passionate advocate for Black participation in all kinds of dance but particularly ballet and a dance pioneer herself. Ms. Browne studied ballet from her early teens and became a professional dancer, performing ballet and modern dance. She also began her lifetime of teaching shortly after enrolling in a ballet school. She spent decades teaching at the Alvin Ailey School and Philadanco. She was a mentor to generations of young dancers. Ms. Browne also promoted the work of Native American artists through a gallery in New York.


Samuel A. Smith

Samuel Alexander Smith ("Sandy") was born on January 28, 1948 in Richmond Virginia.

Known to his friends as "Sandy" he moved to Hamilton Heights in Manhattan New York at an early age. Sandy attended Resurrection Catholic School in Harlem New York , George Washington and Theodore Roosevelt High Schools. He was in Dance club
(loved posing) and enjoyed music (put on hip hop, house and R & B and see what happens). He was a true social butterfly. Sandy also attended Parsons School of Design. His art was his personality. He concentrated on fashion design.


Philip Arnold Robinson, Sr.
January 20, 1943 ~ May 19, 2023

Philip Arnold Robinson, Sr. was born on January 20, 1943 in Harlem, NY to parents James and Irma Robinson. As a surprise to his parents, his brother James Robinson, Jr was born minutes later, the two boys entering the world together.

Philip and James were first raised in the Bronx before their father moved them to 117th Street in Harlem where they lived with their paternal grandmother, Bertha Sewell. For a short period Philip and James lived in foster care with the King family while James Sr. completed his education ultimately earning a law degree.


Maynel B. Thompson, Sr.

Maynel B. Thompson, born on April 6, 1935, in Chistiansted, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, to Charles and Helen Thompson, was a remarkable individual whose life touched the hearts of many. He brought joy to his family, friends, and community throughout his journey, leaving a legacy that will forever be cherished.

From a young age, Maynel displayed exceptional athletic talent. He was an outstanding second baseman for the Crucian baseball team, captivating audiences with his skill and passion for the game.


Geruth F. Graham
October 10, 1926 ~ June15, 2023

Mrs. Geruth Felcia Graham was born on October 10, 1926 in Saint Stephens, South Carolina to the late Cammie Croker Wills. She was called to eternal rest on Thursday June 15, 2023 at her residence in Harlem, New York.

Geruth and Henry Graham married September 1, 1945 and relocated to New York, and from this union two children were born, Sheila and Jennifer.

Geruth was employed by The NYC Board of Education at Saint Joseph School, where she worked as a Dietitian Aide.


Joseph H. Bowen
October 12, 1926 ~ February 15, 2023

Joseph H. Bowen was born on October 12, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late John C. and Emma F. Bowen. He was one of six children.

Joe, known to his friends as “Jose “grew up in New Rochelle, New York. He attended school in New Rochelle and graduated from Isaac Young High School. He loved sports and played football, basketball, and stickball in school and on the playgrounds. He later moved with his family to Harlem where he lived for the rest of his life.


Janet (Jann) Elizabeth White Parker

Janet (Jann) Elizabeth White Parker, mother, vocalist, composer, lyricist, arranger, educator and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., was born to the union of James White and Inez Dudley White in New Bern, NC. There she spent her formative years attending elementary school while engaging in various activities that fed her love of theater and the arts including winning her first talent show at the age of 6 with a performance of a song whose lyrics would ultimately become her mantra for life; Don’t Fence Me In.


Susan Valerie Lee
December 17, 1963 ~ February 21, 2023

Susan Valerie Lee was born on Tuesday, December 17, 1963 to the late Ernestine (Green) Lee and George Lee.

Her elementary schooling began at St. Joseph’s Montessori School in Mount Vernon, NY and at the age of 12, Susan entered the Academy of Mt. St. Ursula in the Bronx. An honor student during her four years of high school, Susan entered Barnard College at the age of 16, and graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Later, she earned a master’s degree in developmental psychology from Teachers College of Columbia University.


Henry Louis Clinton, Sr.
November 1, 1928 ~ February 13, 2023

Henry Clinton, Sr., beloved patriarch of the Clinton family, peacefully transitioned to paradise on February 13th, 2023 in the Bronx, N.Y. He was blessed with 94 years and a devoted family.

Henry was born in Great Falls, South Carolina to Daisy and Isom Clinton on November 1st, 1928. He was the youngest of their eleven children. He attended Paradise Elementary School followed by Emmett Scott High School and later, Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill, SC.  Along with his family, he attended Paradise A.M.E. Zion Church.  As a young man, he discovered a talent for jazz piano and joined a band, performing traditional jazz and bebop. He was drafted into the army in 1951 and served in Korea.


Vincent N. Austin
December 19, 1933 ~ February 11, 2023

Elijah Vincent N. Austin, known to everyone as "Vince", departed this life on Saturday, February 11, 2023, after having his last dance at his favorite karaoke spot, The American Legion. Hew a s born November 19, 1933, to Noel Austin and Ruth Jones in Colon, Republic of Panama.

He immigrated to the United States in 1950 and graduated from George Washington High School in 1952. Shortly thereafter he joinedt h e U.S. Army and served two years in the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge. From there he attended Pace University and graduated with a B.A. in Accounting.


Elijah Frazier
May 25, 1941 ~ January 23, 2023

Elijah “Steve” FrazIer was born to Beauregard “Bub” and Cocoa Frazier in Spring Bluff, GA on May 25, 1941. He was the youngest of eight children, which included Nolan Frazier, Rena (Dollie) Williams, Gussie Massey Robinson, Lessie Owens, Jimmie Frazier, John Henry Frazier and Franklin Frazier.

After graduating high school, Elijah decided to visit his brother, Jimmie in New York City. He fell in love with New York and decided to make it his new home. Elijah married his first wife Eunice Jones in December 1962.


Najee Barnes-Lassiter

Najee Barnes Lassiter was born in Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, New York on August 7, 1998 to the late Bambie Marie Barnes Lassiter (deceased).

Bambie and Najee at the age of 1 ½ years old came to live with Kim Lassiter, who he lovingly called Nana. He was educated in New York City and graduated from Bronx Collegiate Academy on July 1, 2016.


Dante Andrew Tsukuda
October 1, 1974 ~ December 26, 2022

Dante Andrew Tsukuda was born in New York City, New York to the proud parents of Dorothy Cirigliano and the late Ken Tsukuda on October 1, 1974. He was then raised by Dorothy Cirigliano and her second husband Anthony Cirigliano and was the second of three children. Dante attended Louis D. Brandeis High School and was only a few credits shy of completing his Associates Degree from Dutchess Community College.

In his formative years, Dante earned a career as a model, being featured in various advertisements and magazines, such as VIBE and The Source.


Derek Michael Terrell

Derek Terrell was a man of many faces – all of them smiling.

Derek -- known to many as Cujo or simply as D – left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Derek’s laugh could fill an auditorium regardless of the company or the setting. And his personality? Bigger than life.

Derek passed away in the early morning hours of December 1, 2022. He leaves behind a void that none of us will ever be able to fill. He is survived by his wife, Nina, and his daughters, Laila and Olivia.

Georgia Kelly Brown was born December 9th, 1932 in Laurinburg, North Carolina to Beatrice Gilchrist and George Kelly. She is survived by six children, 11 grandchildren, and 2.5 great-grandchildren.

She was a hospital pathologist, celebrated singer, booking agent, administrator, and a phenomenal doting and caring mother to her children who celebrated and adored
us forever.

Carolyn was born in Harlem on November 3, 1947 to the proud parents of Catherine Adamson and Jessie Williams. She was the eldest of 3 siblings.

Carolyn attended the local public school, Wadleigh Junior HS and Central Commercial High School. At age, 17, she secured a job with Manhattan Psychiatric Center on Wards Island as a secretary.

While working at Manhattan Psychiatric Center, she met Joseph Frasier. They were married in 1970.

Christiana Irenie Bramble (Irene) was born on June 27, 1930 to Mary White and Alexander Markham, on the island of Montserrat in the Leeward Islands, the eldest in a close‐knit extended family of siblings and cousins. After completing her studies, Irene worked for a number of years as a teacher in the local primary school; as a result, even to her final years, she would continue to be known to former students, teaching colleagues, and other Montserratians as “Teacher Irene”.

Darlene Yvonne Cornish was born on May 15, 1958 in New York City, New York.  She was the third child and first daughter of Charles Cornish and Barbara Ann Cook. 

Darlene was employed at the United States Post Office and as a Paraprofessional with the NYC Board of Education. Darlene was a dedicated employee and she adored working with her students and shared priceless memories with her colleagues from both positions held. She will be remembered for her vivacious personality and always making those around her laugh. She was the life of the party.  


James “Sonny” Martin

Sonny Martin was born in Carthage, North Carolina, to Bonnie and Willie Mae Martin on April 11, 1943, the fifth of seven children.  Sonny and his siblings were raised and schooled in Sanford, North Carolina.

Until his last days, Sonny lovingly recalled his upbringing in Sanford; however, he moved to New York City to live with his older brother, Juke, when he was sixteen years old.  He was a hard and diligent worker, and with his great personality he made friends wherever he went. 


Carlton Peter Jackson II

Carlton Peter Jackson II, 69, departed this life on September 20, 2022, at the Westchester Medical Center in White Plains, NY surrounded by his loving family. He was the Patriarch of his very close family and enjoyed spending as much time as possible together, especially at holidays and reunions during his retirement. Carlton Peter Jackson, affectionately called Peter, was born October 29, 1952; the only son of four children born to Carlton and Minnie Jackson in Harlem, NY. Being the only boy, he was doted on by all of the family, especially his grandmother, Naomi.

Inspirational, perceptive, loyal, productive and candid, KYRON MARLYN BRACEY was born to his dedicated and supportive mother, Marlo Bracey in Harlem, New York on July 7, 1995. Kyron was a robust baby and loved apple juice, thus the
nickname, “Juice”.

Kyron was a member of Blessed Trinity Baptist Church and was baptized on October 28, 2011. He had strong moral values and displayed a deep concern for the well-being of others, always calling/texting to check on family and friends. He texted his mother daily, frequently to say, “I’m sending you $20.00 for lunch.”

LaForteke Marilyn Coldwell was born on December 24th, 1987 to Cynthia Thompson-Coldwell (mother), Larry Moses Coldwell (biological father) and raised by Allen Moses Reid (step father), along with twin sister LaToya Majestic Coldwell. Both girls gained a loving family consisting of two older sisters Levesa Maghony Coldwell and
Chyerel Coldwell.

LaForteke was a bright young scholar throughout her academic career. She went to Coalition School for Social Change High School where she would meet her BFF’s, Dakeena Walker and the Drax Family.


Juanita Gilbert

On Tuesday, June 28, 2022, Juanita Gilbert transitioned to heaven at 91 years young. She was born February 23, 1931, in Macon, Georgia to Hershel and Laurena (née Sipp) Gilbert. She was one of eight children.

Juanita was a 1949 graduate of Ballard High School in Macon, GA.  For a time, she attended Grady Nursing School in Atlanta, Georgia before deciding that she wanted to become a physical education teacher.  Ultimately, Juanita graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University. 


Jacqueline Henderson

Jacqueline Louise was born in Harlem, NY, on May 29, 1936, to Adlyne Johnson and Cecil Grant. She grew up the only girl with three brothers she adored, Wayman, Cecil, and John, all of whom preceded her in death.

From an early age, the girl everyone called Jackie was adventurous, fun-loving, outgoing, and friendly. In kindergarten at Harlem’s Res- urrection Catholic School, she met Carol Ebron (Jackson), who became her best friend for life. Jackie went on to attend Washington Irving High School.


Edward Adams Bagwell

Edward Adams Bagwell, was born on November 21, 1931, in Harlem, New York, to George Lenard Bagwell and Erminie Adams-Bagwell. He had an older sister, Jackie, and a younger sister, June. The family lived at 267 West 113th Street in Harlem, New York.  The Bagwells were long-time members of All Souls’ Episcopal Church, located at 88 St. Nicholas Avenue, New York. 

 The Adams family, including his Mother, eight sisters, and three brothers, immigrated from Bermuda to New York by way of Ellis Island.  Growing up with his family and the “aunts” Edward became the beloved boy in the family who was dotted on by all. 


Duane Ivan Todman,Sr.

Duane Ivan Todman, Sr. was born on October 19, 1968, in Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas Virgin Islands to Bernice Inez Miller and Donald Elroy Todman Sr who both proceeded him to eternal rest. Duaneís mother, Bernice, moved the family to Harlem, NY that same year.

Duane attended George Washington H.S. before obtaining his G.E.D. at 17 yrs. old. Then, Duane went on to obtain a skilled trade in maintenance from the Berk Trade School when he was 19 yrs. old, He worked in the construction industry for many years before joining Goldwater/ Henry J Carter Hospital as a maintenance worker for over 20 years.


Shirley Cline

Shirley Cline entered this life on April 20, 1940, in Daytona, Florida. She was the only child to the late Joe Alex and Naomi Walker.

Shirley attended grade school in New York City and later graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked at Veteran’s Administration Medical Center for 20 years. Shirley loved her job and took great pride in her work. Anyone who knew Shirley knew that she considered nurses and soldiers “Her Babies”.


Gloria Lorraine Duncan

Gloria Lorraine Duncan passed away peacefully in New York City on March 24, 2022. Despite a long battle with a rare, degenerative disease, Gloria was determined to live life to the fullest, and she did! Born Gloria Lorraine Thompkins to Vincent Louis Thompkins, Sr. and Margaret Cecelia Koger Thompkins on March 19, 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA, she spent her childhood and teen years in northeast Washington, DC in the Mayfair Mansions community.  She quickly became the oldest of five siblings that included Nadine, Cecelia, Vincent and William (“Billy” and later “Saleem”).

We honor and celebrate the life of, Mrs. Vernell Gaffney. Vernell was born on July 4, 1942, in Chester, (Dodge County) Georgia, as the youngest of eight children, to the late Dave and Bessie Jordan. On Friday, March 18, 2022, the Lord called her to eternal rest and peace.

As a youth, Vernell was very ambitious and desired to relocate to the North in pursuit of opportunity and equality. As a result, when she graduated from Peabody High School in 1960, Vernell followed her intuition and courageously migrated to NYC.

Brent Jay Cooper’s, steadfast Tour of Duty in this life began at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, on February 23, 1961. He was the younger of two sons born to Mr. Lafayette and Josephine Cooper. His parents, along with his older brother Barry, lived in the Washington Heights section of Upper Manhattan. The family moved to Esplanade Gardens in Harlem, in January 1968.

At both P.S. 200 and Frederic Douglass I.S. 10, Brent was a standout student. He excelled in social studies and English.


Leon Irving Trice

Leon Irving Trice, was born on March 4, 1924 in Richmond Virginia, to Junius Leonard Trice and Myrtle (Priddy) Trice. At the age of 2, he moved to New York City with his parents and his sister, June.  His immediate family has always known him as Bubby, or as he later renamed himself ìUncle Bubby, the Great,î or UBTG.  He was also known as ìTî by many who loved him.

He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx in 1941 and worked as an art gallery attendant at Park Bernet Gallery.


Jean Ragin Carpenter
March 11, 1935 ~ January 19, 2022

Jean Ragin Carpenter (born Emma Jean Blackwell) passed away on January 19, 2022 at the age of 86 due to complications from ALS/Lou Gehrigs Disease.  The daughter of the late Mapel Windham Suber and the late Wade R. Blackwell Jr., she was born in Union, South Carolina but lived for much of her life in the Bronx.

Part of the historic Great Migration of African Americans from the South in the first half of the 20th Century, her family (including her beloved grandmother and several aunts and uncles) moved to New York City when she was four years of age.


Eliza Alberta Allen

Albertha Watson (nee Osborne) was born in Harrises, Montserrat on October 5th, 1926, and was the fourth of ten children born to the late Michael and Angelina Osborne. She was educated in Montserrat, West Indies and attended St. Georges Anglican School in Harrises. 

After graduating in 1943, Eliza served as a public school teacher at Wesleyan School in Plymouth, Montserrat. On July 29, 1948, Eliza was united in holy matrimony to James Joseph Allen in Curacao as her husband had migrated there for work.


Herbert Bellamy

Herbert (Buster) Bellamy III was born on February 23, 1941, in Savannah Georgia to the late Frances Jones and Herbert Bellamy Jr. He was called home to rest on December 19, 2021, in Bronx, New York. He leaves behind a host of family and friends to cherish a lifetime of memories. 

Herbert III attended Alfred E. Beach High School in Savannah, Georgia and joined the United States Army soon after graduation. After proudly serving his county as a PVT E-1, Herbert III moved to New York City and gained employment with The City of New York Health and Hospital at Sydenham Hospital.

Daniel Atherton Sr. affectionately known as the “Slammin’ Drummer” born June 26, 1957 in Harlem, New York. Danny is preceded in death by his mother Gloria Atherton, grandmother Frances Daniels (Mom), Grandfather Leopold Atherton, his sisters Sandra (Sissy) and Cynthia (Tina) Atherton. 

Danny attended Public School 80 and I.S. 88 Wadleigh J.H.S. both in Harlem and Louis D. Brandeis High School. His passion for drums began at a very early age playing on his grandmother’s pots and pans.  He was then purchased his first drum set by his beloved Uncle Harold. 


Carl Veasey Davis

Carl Veasey Davis was born June 28, 1936, in New York City to the late Sirlester Carl Davis and Ione Veasey Davis. Carl was their beloved and loving first child, joined two years later by his adored and adoring younger brother, the late Wayne Gilbert Davis. He was introduced to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a member of Abyssinian Baptist Church in his hometown of New York. Carl was a proud graduate of the New York City Public Schools, graduating from Dewitt Clinton High in 1954. After graduation, Carl served for two years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in September 1957 with the rank of corporal.


Elizabeth Williams Turner

Elizabeth Turner of NYC, NY., entered the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on September 20, 2021 after a long illness.

Elizabeth was born in Lee County, SC., the first child of Geneva Williams and Sonnie Hollman. She graduated from Brandies HS, NYC in 1965 and in 1967 married, John Turner. The two were so eager to marry their parents had to give their consent because of their age: they were married until his death, September 4, 1987. “Kootah” (as affectionally called by her family), went on to begin a career in retail that lasted nearly forty years with RH Macy’s, officially retiring in 2010.


Justice James E. Robinson, Sr.

Justice James Edwin Robinson, born on August 17, 1922, was the second son born to Bertha (Gordon) and Smiley Robinson, in Bainbridge, Georgia. Around the age of five, he and his mother and brother, took part in the great migration of African Americans from the south to the north, where they eventually settled in Harlem. Like most Blacks in Harlem, Dad and his family were poor. When they did not have money to pay the rent, they moved. You could save money with the movers if you waited until the marshal put your belongings out on the street. He got his early education from the New York City Public Schools and graduated from Haaren High School.


Flora Bell Shadwick

Flora Bell Shadwick (81) was born in Lynchburg, VA to the proud parents James and Mary Madison on December 6, 1939. She was the younger sister of the late Marjorie Edwards. Flora last resided in Riverdale, NY and formerly lived in The Bronx.

Flora was called home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2021 of natural causes. She was the caring, faithful and dutiful mother of Darrell Williams, Jeffery Shadwick, Yolanda Shadwick-Gates, Stefanie Blue, Arthur Shadwick Jr. and Emogene Flansburg.


Albertha M. Watson

Albertha Watson daughter of the late Alfred and Charlotte Rouse was born in Charleston South Carolina on January 26, 1938. Our heavenly father who is perfect in all actions called her to her external home on August 31, 2021.

She graduated from Burke High School in Charleston South Carolina and moved to New York at the age of 19 to live with her uncle in Harlem. After her arrival to New York she was employed at Mt. Sinai Hospital as a secretary to numerous doctors.


Natelynne LaGoff

Natelynne (Natalie) LaGoff was born in New York City to the proud parents of Nathaniel and Anna LaGoff on July 30, 1931.
Natelynne attended High School in New York City. After attending high school, she went to work for P.M. Belt Company as Manager in Brooklyn, New York. She retired after 56 years of service.
Natelynne lived at 259 West 112th street for many years until she moved to 424 West 110th Street. Her first apartment was 7K for many years, then after her mother passed away, she moved to the 18C. She has been in the building for 46 years.


June Carolyn Wilson

June Carolyn Wilson was born on June 6, 1944 (D-Day) to George and Dorothy Washington. She was the second of their two children. June was educated in the New York City Public Schools and graduated from George Washington High School in 1962. She attended New York City Technical College and received her nursing degree in 1967. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from St. Francis College in 1998.


Ulric Basil Crosby

Ulric Basil Crosby, the son of Doris Anita Henry and Basil Lancelot Crosby (Antigua, BWI), was born on June 17, 1920 in New York City. He attended New York City public schools and prior to his high school graduation entered the United States Army and was stationed at Fort. Dix, New Jersey. In April, 1951, he married Viola C. Crosby (Beaufort County, NC), the love of his life and remained married for 52 years. Uncle Nip adored Aunt Vi who affectionately called him ‘Nicky’. Throughout her prolonged 20 year illness, Uncle Nip faithfully cared for her.


Cherry Lee Wahrmann

Cherry Lee Hill was born in Manley, North Carolina to the proud parents of Howard Hill and Etta Fraiser Hill on June 15, 1925. She was third youngest of four girls and one of thirteen siblings. 

Cherry completed all her schooling in North Carolina and after remaining here for several years, she decided to move to New York City where she began working as Child Care Giver in 1955.

Fulton McRae Canty was born in Wilmington NC on October 11, 1930. His parents Katie Brooks Canty and Ernest Canty Sr. hailed from Wilmington, NC and Sumter, SC respectively. Together they raised 3 children, Fulton, Ernest Jr., and Audrey Canty. 

His parents migrated to Harlem leaving Fulton and his brother in the care of their grandparents and they later joined their parents in Harlem. Fulton was educated in the NYC public school system including DeWitt Clinton H.S.

Damon Taj Mack was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 11, 1979 to his proud and loving mother Cherylann Mack. He was his motherís only child and beloved son. Damon attended and graduated from John Adams High School in Queens, NY.  Damon was a true New Yorker. Damon was a dedicated and loyal friend, and son. 


Robin Rogers

Robin “Rob Rambo ” Rogers was born to Willie Dean Norwood Rogers and Joseph C. Rogers on February 1st 1959. Robin was the youngest son of this union and the 10th out of the 12 surviving children. Robin started life on the Lower Eastside of Manhattan. The Rogers family moved to Harlem’s NYCHA Drew Hamilton Houses in the 60’s after a residing briefly in the Chelsea Houses. Rob attended Charles Evan Hughes High School before enrolling in Job Corps in Texas.  In 1979 he graduated from Job Corps with a certificate in printing.

Allison Gray Alston, Sr. was born on September 18, 1933 in Alamance County, NC to the late Harvey Alston and Pearl Morrow. He departed this earthly realm on February 24, 2021. He had 11 siblings who preceded him in death. He had a very special relationship with his brother, Overseer Roy C. Alston. He was educated in the North Carolina Public School system. When he migrated to New York, he earned his degree in Engineering. He was an Engineer for General Linen Supply Company.


James Walter Hampton

James Walter Hampton was born in Manhattan, New York City on July 20, 1964 to the proud parents of James and Pearl Hampton. He is the first of two children and 4th of 9 grandchildren of his beloved grandmother, Julia Elizabeth Murphy. James attended elementary, junior high and high schools before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1982 at the young age of 17. In 1997, he was blessed with the birth of his beloved daughter,
Brittney Hampton.

Elizabeth Odessa Williams passed away the night of January 13, 2021 at her home in Harlem, NY. She was born to the late Leon and Odessa Peterson, August 20, 1932 in Manhattan, NY. She was the youngest of three children. Leon Peterson and Willa Peterson preceded her in death. During her childhood years, she was affectionately called Bessie. In adulthood, friends called her Liz. She received a bachelor’s degree from Hunter College and a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Reginald Rodney Howard (Reggie), ”aka Hoss” was born on Thursday, October 30, 1952, from the union of James Taylor and Alberta Howard, in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City. He was educated in the New York City attending Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School for the first five years of his education; PS 192 for his middle school education; and JHS 43 for junior high school education.

Gloria Whitley, was born on December 24th, 1945 in Santurce, Puerto Rico to loving parents Anibal and Felicia Felix. Gloria enjoyed a childhood with four siblings Felix, Maria, Anibal and Marisa (her best friend). Her early years shaped the tenets that guided her always: a love for others, a love of travel, a love of music, and an appreciation for the richness of life.

Rosalind Michelle McCoy was born in New York, NY to Edna and William Barnett on April 23, 1930. She was the eldest of three siblings including Phyllis and Gloria.       

Rosalind attended elementary and junior high school in New York City and graduated from the all-girls Cathedral High School in Manhattan.  As the eldest, she learned to sew and cared for her younger siblings.  In 1955, Rosalind began working at Bell Telephone Company.  


Ophelia Rosalie Pierre-Proctor

Viola Elaine Brown, Ophelia Rosalie Pierre-Proctor was born as one of nine children to beloved parents, James Goodwille Pierre and Nettie Mills Pierre in New York City on March 23, 1951. She departed this life on July 1, 2020 in the City of her birth. Her early years were spent in Harlem, New York and  Hollis Queens, New York, where she matriculated from elementary through high school. A scholar in Mathematics, possessing also musical artistic talent, she was a member of her high school Orchestra where she played the viola. Upon High School graduation, Ophelia was awarded an Academic Diploma.


Creola Agee-Kelly

In Dixon Mills, Alabama on January 17, 1927, Creola Virginia Agee was born to Vanderbilt and Susanna Jackson Agee, the last of their ten children.  On July 9th, 2020, at age 93 she transitioned home to the Lord. 

After graduating from Marango High School, Creola learned young that Alabama held little opportunity for her, so to escape racism and limited prospects and with a sorrowful but determined heart, she left her loving mother, father, brothers and sisters to embark on a migration North, along with her niece Irma Dumas. 


Sylvia R. Mills-Henderson

Sylvia Romalia Mills Henderson, was the beloved daughter of Harry and Albertha Clark Mills. She was born on April 15, 1924 in Manhattan. It was in the bustling and culturally diverse borough of Manhattan that Sylvia enjoyed family life with four brothers and three sisters.

Sylvia attended elementary school in New York City and graduated from the Manhattan Trade Schools for Girls. Sylvia had a magnificent flair for fashion and interior design.


Elvin Waltimore James
August 31, 1937 ~ June 25, 2020

Elvin Waltimore James on August 31, 1937 to the late Celestine and Waltimore James in New York City and departed this life on June 25, 2020 at the Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home after a brief stay. Elvin was one of eleven children, eight boys and three girls. He attended and was educated in the New York public school system.

Upon graduation, Elvin worked for many years as a longshoreman, he was blessed to have found love twice in his lifetime, with Marion and later he found love again which resulted in his second marriage to Suzie.


Jihad Nolan Hunter

Jihad Nolan Hunter was born on September 10th, 1957 to Mona Ann Nias and the late Arnold Douglass Hunter Jr. in New York, NY.

Jihad was the third of six brothers. He grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn and the Burnside area of The Bronx. Jihad attended public school and graduated from the Manhattan Vocational Technical High School with a diploma in Air Conditioning
and Refrigeration.

Barbara Elaine Marlin, the second of four children of Cicely Betton-Johnson and Charles Zaccheus Johnson was born in Jamaica, West Indies on September 28,1930. As a teenager, she immigrated to United States, joining her mother and several other family members in Harlem, New York.

Barbara was a faithful believer in the teachings of Christ and became a member of St. James Presbyterian Church shortly after arriving in Harlem. She dedicated herself to serving the church and the Harlem community.


Virginia Naomi Griffen
June 20, 1952 ~ June 29, 2020

Virginia Naomi Chambers Griffen, affectionately known as “Dumpy” was born on June 20, 1952 to the late James E. Chambers and Mary Frances Chambers. She was the fifth born child, out six children. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday June 29, 2020 with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Mary Chambers and her brother Ronald Dix.

Viola Elaine Brown, was the 3rd child born (older brothers Theodore & Richard, Sr. preceded her in death) to the late Lawrence and Lucile Toler on November 20, 1938 at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, NY.

Viola attended elementary school in Manhattan and later graduated from Julia Richman High School  with various awards and honors.  Viola (Toler) was married to Donald H. Brown from that union, her only son, Gary was born. 


Muriel “Sandi” Moyler

Muriel “Sandi” Moyler, departed this life on Monday June 29th, 2020 at the same place where she was born, Harlem Hospital, in Manhattan.  She was born on September 8, 1933, the second child born to her parents, Freeman Moyler Sr. and Pearl (Brown) Moyler. 

She attended public schools in her formative years and graduated from Central Commercial High School in Manhattan.


Wilhelmenia Francis Royal

Wilhelmenia F. Royal was born in Charleston, South Carolina to the proud parents of Mary and John H. Russell Sr. on October 4, 1930. She was the oldest of eight children.

Affectionately, known as Willie, she graduated from Burke Industrial High School and went on to attended Roper Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse.


Donald Montgomery Parris
April 5, 1940 ~ June 16, 2020

On Tuesday, June 16th, 2020, Donald Parris, loving husband and father of one daughter, passed away, surrounded by his family, at the age of 80.

Donald battled mightily his last few weeks, recovering at a rehab facility nearby, telling his family often, ìI ran today.î  Although that may have been a bit of a stretch, he certainly had defied the odds and a tiny embellishment kept his loved ones on their toes.

William (Billy) St. Clever Gordon, was born in Kingston, Jamaica to the proud parents of Robert and Loris Gordon on July 5, 1965. He was the sixth of nine children and is preceded in death by his younger sister Karen Gordon.

The family moved to New York in 1973 and settled in Harlem, where Billy went to primary school and later graduated from Martin Luther King High School.

Sidat Cee Lassiter the son of  Mazie Nesbitt and Richard R. Lassiter was born November 25, 1956 in Womenís Hospital in New York City.
Sidat was educated in the Washington, DC and New York City school systems. He received his diploma from Brandeis High School in New York in 1974. 
On March 12, 1979, Sidat welcomed his baby girl into this world. Her name was Bambi Marie Lassiter.  He loved his little girl until he and her mother sadly had to lay her to rest in March of 2005.

Charlesetta Wright was born December 19, 1935 to Samuel & Phoebe Wright in Savannah, GA. She attended school in Georgia until graduation.  She left Savannah & moved to Maryland in 1935 where she met and married Jerry Jones. From this union two children were born, Cheryl & Terrell. Charlesetta was a housewife until Jerryís death. She then moved to New York City in 1960, first she lived in Harlem then she moved to the Bronx in 1968.  She was employed by the Local 32BJ Union as an office cleaner for 30 years.

Nadine Claire Frances Bernadette Saunders Jacobs was born on Monday, January 31, 1927 to Maude and Charles Saunders. She joined the angels in Heaven on Saturday, May 30, 2020.

After her father’s death in 1928, Nadine’s mother Maude married Peter Foster Jr. He raised Nadine and her siblings, Doris, Gloria, Peter, Gwen, Floyd, Joseph and Edna. Nadine was the last of Maude Foster’s children to pass away.

James aka (Poonie or POP) was educated in the New York school system. He boxed for Jefferson Boxing Gym where Helen Braxton, Negra and Miguel Rosario were his trainers. He then trained with the Supreme team and his trainer was Milton Lacroix.

Bea came to New York at the age of eight. The family settled in Harlem. She attended Seward Park High School. After graduating, she started a career within the healthcare field.

Kwadwo Asiedu was born in 1933 to Opanin Yaw Sarkodie and Maame Yaa Nimoh, of Afigya Kwabre Kyerekrom and Adukro, respectively. 

Wofa Yaw arrived in the United States in 1971, settling in New York City. His first place of work was in a Hungry Mark Restaurant. Next, he went on to work as an attendant at a Mobile gas station. After getting to know the city, he acquired his driverís license and joined the taxi driving business known as Gypsy.

Marie-Anna Michel, affectionately known as Nanotte, was born in Port-Au- Prince, Haiti on July 26, 1940 to Annonciade Janvier and Micanor Michel.  Nanotte was well known for her love, devotion, and generosity to her family, friends, and neighbors.  She worked as a secretary for the government run insurance company Idash.  Nanotte had a lifelong love affair with the culinary arts.  She poured her heart and soul into creating great gastronomical feasts for family, friends, and the homeless she regularly fed in front of the Cathedral in Port-Au-Prince.

Shaimeek Frazier was born a beautiful, healthy baby, the first daughter of 4 children to the proud parents of Shamika Kearney and Reginald Frazier, born in New York on July 27, 1998. To know her is to love her, and if you knew Shaimeek you knew her by the nicknames of ShyShee and Poopsie given by her mother from birth which later family and friends called her, along with Shy, FlyShy, and ShyShy. Shaimeek was an independent and motivated high school graduate that started at Northern Manhattan Headstart. 


Clarence Wilson

Clarence (Daddy) Wilson was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Wash Wilson and Essie Thomas on January 15, 1934. He was the eldest of his siblings. Clarence spent most of his adolescent years in Birmingham before enlisting in the U.S. Airforce. It was then, where he picked up his talent for boxing, which later became a sport he loved to watch. He proudly served his country from 1951 - 1954 and shortly after completing his service, he moved to New York City where he met the love of his life, Mary Collier.

Audrey Fay Atkinson was born in Jamaica, West Indies on September4, 1949. She was the second child of the late Ida Stewart-Nicholson. Audrey spent her childhood days in Jamaica where she attended elementary school and after graduation she went on to higher education.

Audrey was a very organized person; everything should be in its own place. She loved cooking on the weekends, reading, doing crossword puzzles, going to the movies, shopping at Macyís and watching T.V. She departed from us on May 4, 2020 at the New York Presbyterian Hospital.

She joins her parents, brothers Wilmuth and George, sister Gertrude (Aunt Cookie), her daughter Marie (Peanut) who preceded her in death and her husband is Robert Greaves and Huntley Kinlock.

Helen Delores Bailey, the daughter of the late Sarah Jane Saunders, was born on May 28, 1936, in Finleyville, PA. She departed this life on Sunday, April 19, 2020, in New York City after a long illness.

Helen came to New York City in 1964 and worked for a manufacturing company called Dubin Veiling for twenty years.  In 1987 Helen worked for Macyís Department Store as a Sales Associate until her retirement in 2015.

Frances Regina Sharper was one of five sisters born in Harlem, New York to the Erskine Family on November 7, 1924.  She attended Julia Richmond High School in Manhattan and later attended CUNY Herbert Lehman College in the Bronx where she graduated at the top of her class with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology.

Frances went on to pursue a distinguished 30 year civil service career with the New York City Department of Transportation.

Viretta Pauline McGeachy was born in Ahoskie, North Carolina on February 4th, 1953. She was the oldest daughter of the late William Clyde Artis and the late Pauline Moore Artis.

Viretta attended Robert L. Van High School and Murfreesboro High school where she received her diploma. She moved to Washington D.C. with her aunt Doris Demary and then settled in New York City. Viretta earned a certificate with the Visiting Nurse Services of New York City. She was a desk clerk for 30 years when she retired.

Robert Carter was born on October 15th, 1930 in Richland County, South Carolina. He had 5 siblings; all deceased. The Lord held his hand and took him home on April 4th, 2020. Mr.Carter married his loving wife, Thelma Roberts Carter of 64 years, also of Richland County South Carolina. Until her passing, on February 18th 2013. Their union was blessed with 11 children, 7 sons and 4 daughters.

EllEn Pauline Gibson (neé Benson) was born in the Settlement of Savannah Sound, Eleuthera Bahamas, on July 10th 1916, to parents Edwin Benson and Rebecca Hilton. She was the last of six children and was a twin, her twin died at birth. Ellen relocated from Savannah Sound and moved in with her older sister, Gwendolyn Styles, to a house on Okra Hill, in Nassau, New Providence Island. She spent the bulk of her time with her older sister, her brother, Arnaud (Naudy) Benson and baby sat for her niece, Stella, with whom she remained close over the years.

Esther Murrell was born in Harlem Hospital on December 21, 1926 to Martha Bullock and David Washington. Sometime later, Esther’s mother married Mr. Ellis who had daughter, Audrey L. Brown, RN, EDD. PhD., giving Esther a stepsister, who preceded her in death on October 17, 2016.

Esther received her formal education in the New York City public school system. She possessed a great love for the arts and loved to travel. Esther owned many books and pictures.
